Become a TJJD Juvenile Correctional Officer (JCO)
If you meet the eligibility criteria, enjoy working with young people, and are ready for a challenge, willing to learn, and prepared to work as a team member in a structured environment, we encourage you to consider employment as a TJJD Juvenile Correctional Officer.
What you’ll do as a JCO
As a JCO, your potential impact on the young people is incredible. JCOs work with the youth every day, building relationships with them that support their social, academic, and treatment progress. JCOs help the youth learn how to control their behavior and make better decisions. You’ll get extensive training for this job, building the skills you’ll need to mentor and guide the youth committed to TJJD. After being hired, all JCOs take a wide variety of pre-service classes covering such subjects as Trauma Informed Care, Professional Ethics, and Youth Rights. And you’ll team up with other JCOs during your first weeks working with the youth.
The training you receive upon hire will help you gain the knowledge and skills you need.

Mental Health Treatment Providers
We welcome all levels of experience and for starting LPC-A, LMFT-A, LMSW, or Psychological associates, our LPC-S, Psychologists, and LCSW-S professionals can provide supervision toward licensure at no cost. As a Mental Health Treatment Provider for us, you’ll benefit from recent salary increases and training opportunities in many programs:

- $70,000 – $103,000*
Annual Salaries for Psychologists at TJJD
- Psychologist II – $101,209 or $105,556*
- Psychologist III – $112,455 or $120,333*
- Psychologist III + 3 years of experience – $118,702 or $123,637
Requirements
- Must be licensed as a psychologist in Texas.
- Psych II – has at least 18 months of fulltime wage-earning experience as a licensed psychologist.
- Psych III – has at least 3 years of fulltime wage-earning experience as a licensed psychologist.
* Those working in MH or Crisis Stabilization units make the higher listed salary.
