Local professionals and organizations join forces to guide the next generation
By TJJD Communications, in collaboration with Fernando Rodriguez, Chief Juvenile Probation Officer Zapata County —
The Zapata County Juvenile Probation Department, in collaboration with a dedicated group of local professionals and organizations, has launched the Positive Motivational Influencers Program, an innovative initiative designed to inspire and inform the youth of Zapata County.
Through monthly sessions, the program brings together a diverse group of presenters—including business owners, emergency responders, program administrators, and advocates—to share their experiences, outline available services, and offer practical advice. These presenters provide insight into their career paths, the challenges they have overcome, and the inner workings of their professions, demonstrating to local youth that hard work and determination can open doors to success regardless of one’s background.
Program objectives
- Develop essential life skills
- Prepare for adult living
- Explore job opportunities
- Encourage service in the local community
Workshops and community engagement
In addition to speaker presentations, the program features hands-on workshops where instructors teach practical life skills needed for adulthood. Participants who complete these workshops may earn a certificate of completion, further motivating engagement and personal development.
Monthly events and community service credit

Community service activities are scheduled once a month, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at locations including the Zapata County Juvenile Probation Department Community Service Building, the Zapata County Courtroom, and the Zapata County Courthouse second floor meeting room. The department ensures a welcoming environment by providing snacks and beverages at each session.
Juveniles who attend these activities receive two hours of community service credit for each hour of participation. If accompanied by a legal guardian, they can earn up to four hours of credit per event, offering an added incentive for family involvement.
