Pre- and Post-Adjudication Facilities

The Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) registers both pre-adjudication detention (temporary holding) and post-adjudication correctional facilities (long-term rehabilitation/confinement) across the state. These facilities are operated by local jurisdictions or private vendors.

Pre-adjudication detention facility: County-operated facility to serve youth awaiting trial for delinquent conduct. The juvenile judge reviews their detention decisions every TK days.

County post-adjudication correctional facility: County-operated facility to serve youth who have been adjudicated for delinquent conduct, and placed in a facility as a term of their juvenile probation to engage in rehabilitation services.

State post-adjudication correctional facility: State-operated secure correctional facility to serve youth who have been adjudicated for felony delinquent conduct and committed to a term of confinement in state facility. Youth typically have longer lengths of stay than in county facilities, and engage in intensive rehabilitative programming targeted at their criminogenic risk.
