DPS-Security Officer Phase II

The student will have an understanding of the legal authorities pertaining to Security Officer Commission and responsibilities and will be able to demonstrate proficiency in techniques and tactics necessary to carry out duties as a Commissioned Security Officer.

OIG-Basic Patrol Rifle

Details: 10 Seats Pre-Requisite: Must have a TCOLE PID number. Supervisor Approval Required No cost for this course. The student will understand the universal rules of gun handling. The student will understand the history of the AR-15 type rifles. The student will understand the mechanical workings of the AR-15 type Rifles.

Details: 10 Seats Pre-Requisite: None Supervisor Approval Required No cost for this course. This course teaches participants the principles of marksmanship, rifle nomenclature, and operation. Emphasis will be placed on weapons manipulation and how to fight with commonly configured patrol rifles. Although this course is based on the AR-15/M-4/M-16 weapons platform, other systems will be discussed.

This dynamic course of instruction is designed to prepare the first responder to isolate, distract, and neutralize an active shooter. This course will cover shooting and moving, threshold evaluation, concepts and principles of team movement, setting up for and room entry techniques, approach and breaching the crisis site, secondary responder tactics, improvised explosive devices, and post engagement priorities of work. The course will culminate with dynamic force on force scenarios.
