TJJD’s Board of Directors honored 30-year agency employee John Johnson at their meeting on May 20.
Johnson began work in 1995 as a youth activity specialist with the Texas Youth Commission, TJJD’s predecessor agency.
He moved up to group leader, case manager and supervisor. He works today as a manager in Substance Use Services.
While working for the agency in the 1990s, Johnson studied for and earned his Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) license, allowing him to provide direct treatment services to the youth.

Johnson’s commitment to providing effective supervision, treatment, and community service opportunities to youth and robust support to his direct reports has never wavered. During his time at the agency, he worked diligently with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to enhance service delivery to TJJD youth.
He also developed a monitoring system to improve the agency’s quality of care to youth and assisted with the development of the Chemical Dependency Intern program.
Johnson lives in Fort Worth with Traci, his wife of 39 years. The Johnsons have two adult children, Katelyn and Garrett and one grandson.
To recognize his state service, the board presented Johnson with a flag flown over the Capitol and a resolution from the Legislature, both provided by Rep. John Lujan. Executive Director Shandra Carter and Interim Director of Treatment Services Sarah Hogan helped with the presentation.
