Please join Texas Juvenile Justice Department for this two-day workshop that will prepare staff to effectively train the required topics identified in Senate Bill 1356


GOAL
The goal of this workshop is to provide Juvenile Justice Trainers a training curriculum and practice experiences so that they may help juvenile justice professionals (primarily juvenile probation officers) increase rehabilitation and successful futures for youth by adopting trauma-informed practices.

OBJECTIVES
Training participants will achieve an understanding and have the information and tools to teach juvenile justice professionals the following concepts:

- Defining trauma and the prevalence of traumatic exposure in the general population of youth and in youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
- Understanding the impact of traumatic exposure on brain development, child development, and the lifespan.
- Identifying the role of trauma in driving the emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and relational difficulties of juvenile justice involved youth.
- Contrasting perspectives and approaches that increase the secondary trauma youth experience and perspectives and approaches that promote recovery, rehabilitation, and resiliency.
- Developing pragmatic plans for providing trauma-informed interventions with youth and their families.
- Strategies for becoming leaders in influencing trauma-informed community responses.
- Increasing awareness of vicarious trauma and strategies for self- care and resiliency for juvenile justice professionals.

Refunds will not be granted for no shows; however, course materials will be mailed within one week after the conclusion of the conference.
